where are they now? and why do we care?
Driving home from dinner the other night, we were listening to one of the many XMRadio stations specializing in ‘alternative rock’, which really just means Music I Listened to in College, and Billy Squier’s hit ‘Rock Me Tonight’ came on.
Wade read the display and said, ‘Wow, Billy Squier. I bet you haven’t thought about him recently.’
‘Uh, no.’
‘He needs to get on Hit Me Baby One More Time.’
‘Remember when we were living in Columbus and he was playing at the Borders*?’
‘I DO remember that!’
‘Jennifer and I kept saying, it CAN’T be THAT Billy Squier, and Gianna said, YES! IT IS! And she was SO right. But we went home before he played, because it was just too weird.’
‘Billy Squier. What do you think he’s doing now?’**
And then last night, Wade came home and said, ‘Remember Tommy Two-Tone?’
I thought. ‘Was he the really really tall guy who did the Broadway shows?”
‘No. You’re thinking of Tommy TUNE. Tommy Two-Tone sang that Jenny song–you know, 8-6-7-5-3-0-9. THAT song.’
‘Oh, sure.’
‘Know what he does now? He’s a software designer.’
‘Of course.’
*Yes, a Borders bookstore. Really.
**Actually, he has a new album out. Go figure.
