what I did today
I love clothes; I love to shop. I like to look at all the different styles and colors and patterns and think about what might go with what. I love pretty clothes.
I rarely wear them, though, because I have TWO KIDS and I have to wear things that can go to the park and the pool and can be used as a handtowel and then go in the washing machine and the dryer so I can get them out again forty eight hours later and do the whole thing again. But the other day it occurred to me that in in just a few weeks, when BOTH boys are in school ALL DAY, I will be a Person Who Can Wear Grown-Up Clothes During the Week.
Except I don’t really HAVE any Grown-Up clothes.
My usual shopping MO is this: run into Old Navy with BOTH kids, grab t-shirts in colors I don’t have, pay as quickly as possible while hissing, “Stop touching him! STOP TOUCHING HIM!” So every time I get the chance to be a Person Who Wears Grown-Up Clothes, all I have to wear are t-shirts from Old Navy.
Most of which have coffee stains on them.
Today I went to Ann Taylor Loft (where they are having a SALE! whoo hoo!) and TRIED THINGS ON. Lots of things. In lots of sizes. (Moral: I’m a petite through the boob area but nowhere else. How depressing.) And then I bought things that are Pretty and Fun and Not Necessarily Useful For Everyday.
Yes, that’s a SILK HALTER TOP! And a WHITE tunic! NOT kid friendly! NOT practical! But on sale and SO VERY PRETTY!
And THEN, if that weren’t enough, I had a pedicure. A PEDICURE!
The color is Dutch Tulips. Don’t you love that?
Now I just need some shoes, to go with the halter and the pedicure . . .

…and a skirt or some pants. I know Donald Duck doesn’t usually wear pants with his shirt, but…ya know…we got laws here, missy.

My new shoes would not match at all.

I’m all over the silk halter!!! actually, I liove both shirts, but the halter must be dry cleaned, which makes me want it that much more.
Oh?? No Ann Taylor OR her Loft here in good ol’ Canada. I’m off to the mall tomorrow to see what they actually have, besides Roots.

oh, such pretty feet! I hate getting pedicures but I love the result…sigh.
I LOVE the halter! I never wear “fun” clothes anymore. Jeans and t-shirts everyday. I bought 5 of the same t-shirt in different colors from GAP the other day and I’ve been wearing them everyday since.

I miss my pedicure, my feet have regained full alien status…but my company gave me araise so I may splurge…of course I did splurge for tickets for a Tom Waits concert so maybe I shouldn’t…but your toes look so pretty.
decisions, decisions.

oooh I can’t wait for the day when I can wear grownup clothes. A pair of cream pants and heels with the halter… I can only dream….

Shopping in a real store? AND trying things on? Girl, you need to visit your parents more often.

OPI, right? I *love* that color - I wear it all the time on my toes!

My kids are going to be in school f/t this year too, but it never ocurred to me that I would need a new wardrobe. Crap. Now I need to go shopping.
Love those shirts. Very jealous we don’t have a Loft.

I hate you. I’m so far away from grown-up clothes I can’t even think about it. And by the time the boy is in school and I might be able to wear nice clothes again, I hope to be pregnant. Which means I have about 8 years before I get to wear nice clothing again. *sigh* Perhaps I’ll be thin by then…

As a work-outside-of-the-home mom, I appear to be on the opposite clothing track from you. I have recently convinced myself that Old Navy t-shirts are the perfect office attire and wear them with all my suits. I still bought them while waiting in line hissing “stop touching him” though!! Love the halter (although I could never ever wear it), love the tunic even more but the pedicure is the best!! Enjoy your vacation!

I can’t remember the last time I wore poish on any of my appendages even doing it myself.
Lovely.

Oh, cute toes! Oh, cute clothes!
I wish I could wear Ann Taylor. I will lose weight so I can wear Ann Taylor.
Nahhh…
But I like yours!

Shopping without kids, and a pedicure, HEAVEN! Good for you. Isn’t it amazing how pretty things can really give our spirits a lift.

Love the color…and those tops. The tunic isn’t see through, is it? I don’t think that’s the type of adult wear you should be going for.

So very jealous!

As soon as I lose the weight, I’m totally buying a new, lovely wardrobe.
Don’t tell Mr. Foot. He’d have a coronary.

A petite in the boobs and nowhere else… I’m cracking up! But trust me, here’s what’s worse, I’m a petite in HEIGHT, but NOWHERE else. Seriously!
And I got really heavy (for me) last winter for some reason (I’m back to more normal now) but I called my girlfriend one day after shopping to say, “Oh my god, I HAVE to do something about this, I’m a size 14 PETITE!”
And her laughing hysterically didn’t help me feel much better!
August 2nd, 2006 at 9:41 pm, MommyWithAttitude Says:
Oh I should have clarified, my “normal” is still too big! But it’s not a 14!
August 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 pm, Mary Tsao Says:
I’m a petite in the boob area, too!
I love Ann Taylor Loft and those shirts you got are soooo cute. See, I would totally wear those even if the kids were around. But instead of hissing, “Stop touching him!” I’d be hissing, “Stop touching me!”

Cute toes! You should be able to get sandals on sale at this time of year, so you can show off your pedicure.
I need one of those. I’m about 6 years removed from cute clothes so I’ll have to console myself with pedicures. At least you can’t wreck those by washing dishes and playing Hungry Hungry Hippos.

I was at The Loft on Tuesday and also spent some $$ on impractical-never-to-be-worn-in-the-preschool-classroom clothing!! Hurray for us! C
