this weekend, I plan to . . .
. . . take my kids to the pool (which will involve wearing a BATHING SUIT oh my god let’s not dwell on that), eat some ice cream (thus my dilemma with the swimsuit), sit in the shade at the park (and maybe read a book! or a magazine! while WADE plays with the kids!), drink something icy and delicious (frappucino? margarita? both! but not together because eeew), love on my sister-in-law’s baby (all fourteen pounds of him), visit with my husband, have coffee with my friend Caroline, sleep late, write, eat, relax.
Really, I’m just planning to show up and hope everything else takes care of itself. Because that’s what summer is all about.
Mostly, though, I just hope to see a lot of this:
Happy first weekend of summer! What do YOU have planned this weekend?
Homestead has posted an update on Nadine. Think of her–and her family–this weekend, and SEND THOSE CARDS. And if I haven’t already said it, thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Nothing brightens a day more than seeing and hearing children laugh.

I’m going to put some ribs in the crockpot (reminds me, I must go do that between innings) and make loose meat barbecue for tomorrow. That and watermelon and maybe some slaw for nutritional purposes will make a picnic.
It’s cooled off here (CA central valley) do it may be my back yard instead of the lake but the girls love the idea of paper plates and sloppy eating. Which reminded me of the corn, of course.
My exciting life. Aren’t you glad you asked?

Tina, what I really love is that when we get home from that particular park, the boys are COATED in sand and sunscreen, like little breaded chicken cutlets. Which makes ME laugh.
And Ann, what time should we show up? I’ll bring the margaritas!

Our pool opens this weekend and I guess I will take the kids there, but I am dreading going in. The water will probably be freezing.

The summer drink I am going to make:
2 shots tequila
1 shot triple sec
2 scoops lemon sorbet
2 scoops lime sorbet
blend all ingredients in a blender and serve in a margarita glass.
Hello Summer!
It sounds like you guys will have a wonderful first weekend of summer. Our Memorial Day weekend is more like the first weekend of fall because it is 59 degrees and raining and with some thunder storms. That does not mean we are not eating ice cream.
Cheers!

I could use a frap and a margarita right now. And reading a magazine? That sounds sooo much more relaxing than studying for finals!

Adria! Stop taunting me!
Oh my god why don’t I have any sorbet??? I would totally trade the kids for some sorbet RIGHT NOW.

Our pool opened in MARCH. What the hell would I do with the kids if it hadn’t? AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!
Then again, it’s too hot to go outside unless you’re IN the pool.
Man I want my own pool. And margaritas. And Adria’s summer drink. I’ll settle for laughing kids though.

Hope you’re having a spectacular weekend. And I am drooling over the drink recipes, ladies!
In fact, I’ve gotta go see what’s in my cupboard. Bye!

One more reason to hate San Francisco: it`s still so chilly here most days that I have to wear my heavy socks, or my feet freeze.
(But at least my flowers are blooming.)
Nice to know people are enjoying summer, out there somewhere….

Hey! We are planning on spending much time at the pool this summer as well. Very relaxing - kids get out all of their energy and sleep well at night, Mom gets top lounge in the chairs by the fence and read, and everyone is happy.
Later this day I should have my weekend adventures up at the blog. They are pretty funny, and include sewing a button back on a guy’s kilt while he is in it. Good stuff.

Aw, such cute kids! Well summer here in the SF bay area is not much different then spring or fall so there is no official marker. However, since my son can now walk all over the place he is enjoying most of the time running around our yard disembowling plants. I am spending my time cleaning up after him. And drinking.
