the short version

A few things about my weekend, in no particular order:

1. Kansas City is FABULOUS. I could totally live there, although it would have to be on the Kansas side and not the Missouri side because what’s with the proposed BAN on stem cell research? Come on, Missouri. Do better.

2. Jen has the most fantastic, infectious laugh. I wanted to bottle it and bring it home for days when I need a pick-me-up.

3. I heard Jen’s laugh a lot this weekend because SJ is The Funniest Woman Alive. Saturday night, Jen and I cozied up in our Heavenly Beds while SJ entertained us with thirty minutes of improv, which included a reenactment of Pregnant Sciatica SJ riding on the FRONT of a shopping cart at Target while the Hubs pushed.

4. You know how SJ always says that Sam is the Happiest Baby Ever? Completely true. If I’d had a big enough carry-on bag, I would have brought him home with me.

5. Tony, that’s a bread pudding. Krista and I had dinner at Nordstrom (I could totally live THERE, too) on Thursday night, and she had to remind the server THREE TIMES to bring her bread pudding. When she finally got up from the table and went to TRACK IT DOWN, they brought us a quarter of a pan of bread pudding. And we ate it, because it was DELICIOUS.

6. I read an entire novel this weekend. An entire REALLY GREAT novel. An entire really BIG novel.

7. Krista reminded me that pink is a good color when one is feeling tired or wan. I’ll be wearing pink all week, apparently, because while I was having all this fun, I seem to have forgotten to sleep. It was entirely worth it, though. As were the two Cosmos with dinner on Friday and the wine with lunch on Saturday.

More pictures later. Pictures are up. You might want to shield your children’s eyes.

  1. Okay, I guess a vacation is an okay reason for me to not have my Fashion Friday. I’ll forgive you as long as you had a good time.

  2. Scribbit! Fear not! Fashion Friday will appear on Wednesday this week, and then AGAIN on Friday. I had a post all ready to go and then NO INTERNET.

    Hang in there. It’s coming.

  3. Good for you! Did anybody kick you in the gut? No? See, I told you!

I’m glad you read a great big novel. Now I’m waiting for the weekend when you go away and WRITE a great big novel, because wouldn’t that be fun? Fun for the rest of us to read, I mean. Maybe if you go ahead and have wine with lunch right now you’ll start to think it’s a good idea. Because I need something good to read.

  4. I fucking love bread pudding.

  5. Chris, that bread pudding had chocolate chips and caramel sauce.

    I’m drooling just writing that.

  6. I gained 5 pounds watching you drool while writing that. Ack!

  7. So, tell us the name of the novel you finished! I hope you didn’t drool any of that caramel sauce on it…..

  8. Good Good Good. I’m glad you liked my hometown!!!

  9. Mmm, bread pudding.

I don’t think I can handle reading anymore blogs of people meeting their blog friends–sounds like this was the weekend to do it. I am quite envious!

  10. Ok, YUM! Did they drizzle molten caramel on that or something? I repeat, YUM!

Funny, I’ve been to Kansas City precisely once in my life (St. Patrick’s Day weekend, 1995) and I thought the Kansas side was the safer bet, too. But then there’s the whole evolution thing…

  11. Oh, that book sounds great! So glad you had a good time. And pink really does make everything better.

  12. I can’t believe you read an entire novel in a weekend!!!

    Impressive.

  13. sounds like so much fun.
Makes me want to visit kansas city.
glad to hear SJ. is as funny in person as she is on her blog.
she never fails to crack me up.

  14. Susan, you really should read your own links. The proposal is to amend the constitution to allow government funding of embryonic stem cell research, not to ban the research.
Stick with fashion. Don’t blog about politics unless you can get your facts straight first.

  15. Elizabeth, the amendment would end funding for stem cell research in the state of Missouri; the writers very wisely chose the term “human cloning” because of it’s ability to frighten voters. It’s what is called a “weasel word”–the whole idea is to frighten voters by persuading them that the scientists currently working to cure juvenile diabetes, for example, are planning to start making people in their labs.

I stand by what I said: this amendmend would ban state funding for stem cell research in the state of Missouri. Ending funding ends the research. Human cloning is a red herring; that’s not what this is about at all.
