swimming in the shallow end

On Saturday, I have a lunch date with the uber fantastic Shana. I am excited about this for two reasons; on is that Shana is just so damn fun to be around and I know that I will wind up laughing until I pee my sides hurt, but the OTHER reason is that in her previous life Shana was a Makeup Girl and she’s going to take me to Sephora and make me look 20 years younger!

Is that asking too much? Nah.

Actual unedited e-mail I sent to Shana:

I would like to look like I’m not wearing ANY makeup, but only if I can look like I have perfect skin (hello, I am shallow, get over it). I would also like to look like I’ve gotten enough sleep, which means I will need some great concealer. And of course some REALLY FABULOUS mascara.

Do I need anything else? You know, so that I can look like I’m 20 and not nearly 40? Oh, right, plastic surgery. But short of THAT?

I’m tired of the dark circles under my eyes, I’m tired of my meh skin, I’m tired of foundation that fades away by lunchtime. I am also lazy and don’t want to have to screw with anything complicated.

I’m going to lunch sans makeup, and I’m going to PHOTOGRAPH THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE, just for you, Internet. Because I love you. (Feel free to remind me that if I really loved you I wouldn’t compel you to look at my makeupless face.)

And yes, we will be having a moment of silence for Whoorl and HeatherB when we get to Sephora.

  1. Oh enjoy! How fun!

I would do the same except for some odd reason I’ve broken our camera and it’s permanently on the “timer” setting, so the make-up consultant would have to hold very still for 10 seconds every time she did something new and amazing.

Have fun! Can’t wait for photograhic proof! And a list of what you left with, of course.

  2. DAMN IT.

  3. Wait. OKC got a Sephora?! That’s big time!

  4. Cure for the meh skin: Dr. Andrew Weil Plantidote products from Origins. Gentle, nourishing, and takes years off your face. I have rosacea and have tried everything to help calm the redness and not hurt (prescrips, cetaphil); this is the only thing that has worked for that and my 40 yr. old neglected skin has never looked better! I use the cleanser, face serum, eye serum and lotion. THE BEST! (and I don’t work for Origins :)
Have fun shopping. Can’t wait to see the pictures.
    Fondly, Finn

  5. Ooh, how I love you, Susan. If you find a cure for the dark circles, you MUST SHARE. Because I seriously cannot imagine my face without them, so permanent a feature of my appearance are they. And being a mom of a baby and a preschooler? NOT HELPING.

  6. Wow, I’m so jealous. I wish I could be more of a grown up and actually wear real makeup. As it is, I’m lucky to get out the door with a little eyeliner and mascara, and maybe some chapstick.

Plus, I have light circles under my eyes, which I can’t seem to cover up. So I end up looking like the reverse of a raccoon. Or the hamburgler. Not pretty.

  7. You are going to the holiest of all holies! I am envious beyond measure! Yay for you!

  8. I recommend the Bare Essentials line. Sephora carries it and it’s a dream come true for your face. I’ve been using it for about a year and haven’t went back to any of my old make up since. Good luck!

  9. I just know that you would be SO MUCH FUN to shop with! Am jealous! Can’t wait to see the photos!

  10. Color me jealous. Screw Disneyland, Sephora is the happiest place on Earth.

  11. I think we need to see what you bought and what you’re still using a month later.

I miss Sephora. I’ve heard that some JC Penny’s now have a Sephora counter in the store.

  12. i think we need to limit the alcohol intake so as to not purchase anything that’s “awesome! because it’s just so shiny and shimmery!”

  13. This might be another one of those weekends when I end up in Oklahoma….

And I’m with Whoorl, when did you all get a Sephora? Or is it outside of the 3 mile radius that we traveled in the entire time I was there?

  14. Sephora sounds better than Walgreens.

  15. There’s a Sephora in Disneyland, too…just so you know ;o)

    Have fun.

  16. What’s more fun than Sephora? Get some stuff from Benefit - that makeup rocks!! LOTS of good products for those tired eyes (mine, I mean…mine!). Have a great time!

  17. Sephora = Heaven

Bare Escentuals is AWESOME! Believe me when I say the Well Rested under eye powder - I know - is a miracle. Are you insane I hear you asking? But this powder is not powder. Just try it is all I can say. I hope to never change make-up again. LOVE LOVE LOVE Bare Escentuals.
