spring break, day three: it’s a total zoo around here
I took the boys to the zoo today, because it was EIGHTY DEGREES in Oklahoma City (thank you Jesus). We saw the baby lions and the snow leopard and some turkeys and a whole slew of bats. And then we went out for lunch and played outside and went to the grocery and watched a movie and cooked hamburgers on the grill.
It was a really lovely day.
Today was also the first day that the kids were home but Wade was not AND I was working, which was not as much fun as you might imagine! Or just as much fun, I suppose. I was completely unable to get out of bed when my alarm went off (at FIVE AM), so I just gave up and went back to sleep for two more hours, which meant that instead of having a little window where I could read my e-mail in peace, I wound up IMing and emailing and making waffles all at once. Literally.
The waffles were the frozen kind, thank goodness. And I still only barely managed to pull that off.
The rest of the day — the zoo and lunch and the playing — were interspersed with a constant checking of e-mail (thank you Jesus and Steve Jobs for the iPhone). In line at the grocery, I answered one query about my job title and another about where I went to college while the boys put the groceries on the counter so we could check out. I made work-related phone calls while they played outside. At one point, Charlie came in to go potty and I had to tell a colleague that I would need to call her back because we were having a little bit of a poop incident. When I did return the call, I was able to report that Charlie was fine and was singing, “I’m a little constipated, I’m a little constipated” while he washed his hands.
This is the new Virtual Office, you all. Most days I love it, but sometimes I find myself yearning for the traditional office, where no one talks about their poop.
Although I guess singing about it would be okay. Sort of.

Don’t be alarmed but I worked in a traditional office where someone did regularly talk about her poop. Her constipation to be specific (and believe me she was) oh and her haemerrhoids too.
I don’t work there any more.

My son knows that song! In our family lore there’s a story about Danger Boy and a gallon of chocolate milk–it was painful!

Dried Lychees from Trader Joes. It only takes two or three and kablam. You have poop.

Can anyone please tell me when the bodily functions of my children will not be daily conversation? It is a good thing that I don’t have business calls around here!

the zoo is fun
I invited my nine year old brother to visit me this weekend, and we’re going to the aquarium.

I’m with Annika. As much as I want children, this is something that scares me. I love sleep so much, I think my child would try and wake me up in the night because their hair was on fire and I’d just shove them away.

Unfortunately there is some random poop talk at my traditional office. Boundaries have become unrecognizable in all areas of my life, apparently. I really do just love the zoo. I may go this weekend. Alone!

Ah~ the joys of the virtual office. I find the dogs to be a constant joy during web conferencing or conference calls. I’ve actually had someone stop a meeting and ask “Uhm, are you ok Lina?” “Yes, fine, sorry, the dogs just came running in here and flipped me out of my chair. So back to those demographics!”

I love the Oklahoma City Zoo so much. When we lived there we used to take the kids a couple of times a year. I promised the boys when we are in Oklahoma this summer that we would go again. We have been to the zoo here in Atlanta and it is pretty nice but the OKC Zoo is our home!
