spring break, day five: road trip!!!

Yesterday, Rachel said “Wait–so this far into Spring break you’ve had a house smell like beer, a car accident, and sniffing paint fumes? Are you sure you aren’t on a college spring break?” I’m sure; if I were there would be significantly more drinking, and maybe a wet tee shirt contest.

Here is how desperate I am to get away from my house my kids my job nice I am: tomorrow morning, at 5:45 am, we’re going to drop my mother at the airport and start driving. To Albuquerque! Which takes eight hours. And involves no wet tee shirts whatsoever, just a LOT of coffee and probably some Girl Scout cookies.

Friday I will get up early (but not QUITE so early) and fly home. The end.

Except for this: in the moments when I’m not totally panicked because I HAVE WORK TO DO and MY HOUSE IS A DISASTER and I AM WAAAAY TOO TIRED TO DRIVE, I am really really looking forward to the flight back. Alone. Just me and a Vogue magazine. And I book I think I was supposed to review this week but haven’t finished reading yet.

Heaven. Perhaps I’ll even get a drink on the plane.

  1. Ha! I am TWO MONTHS behind on book reviews.

Happy trip! I am jealous as all hell.

  2. Oh I know!

Moments alone (and by this I mean no husband, no kids, and NO DOG) are frankly GOLDEN now…

And you get HOURS of them. Lucky thing.

  3. Have a safe trip!!

I just made plans last night to go see Misfit Hausfrau by myself. On a plane. I canNOT wait!!!! I’m going to go out of my way to dress like a chic chick, Vogue, sunglasses and fabulous boots—my non-mommy costume, if you will…
I’m sure the paparazzi will chase me, thinking I’m a star!

    Riiiiight…

  4. I’m envious…Spring Breaks coming up on us and I’ve got NO idea what we’re going to do. Road trip sounds good, just can’t imagine who’s want to receive us.

  5. Have a fun trip! I’m a bit jealous of all your child free time you’re going to be enjoying.

  6. Oooh! You lucky girl! I am so jealous. I was bumming today at the doctor’s office because it was an appointment for Emily and therefore I couldn’t sit in the waiting and exam rooms reading or cross-stitching uninterrupted. *sigh* OH! but there’s only 4 more minutes until nap time so maybe I can do something adult then… :) YAY! Drive safely!

  7. I know that feeling well - I flew to and from California last month ALONE - just being alone was a great vacation.

  8. If you weren’t so hell bent on the whole “alone” thing, I’d be begging you to take me with you - that sounds sublime right now. Have fun…

  9. A long drive to anywhere and a plane ride home without kids sounds amazingly restful to me right now.
