Sparrow Hair

Last week, Danielle, Heather and I — and some of our favorite people from the Internet — spent an afternoon hanging out at Sparrow Hair in Chicago. I had my hair cut and colored, and Susan and Sheba, the salon owners served wine and cheese — but even better, we gave away two hair makeovers, because good hair makes the world a better place.

Susan and Sheba — the brains and talent behind Sparrow Hair — are fantastic; they asked all the right questions and listened and were clear about what they were going to do. And they’re also funny and stylish, which really puts a girl at ease. Especially when you’re in for cut and color.

Sparrow Hair is located in an old barber shop; the building is beautiful. The wallpaper and tin ceiling are original to the building, and the vintage shampoo sinks were added during the remodel. The hair dryer is an old barber’s chair, retrofitted with a hot air bonnet.

But the best part of a makeover is the after, isn’t it? And these girls looked fantastic — just like themselves, but better. We couldn’t say enough good things about both of them.

Our thanks to Susan and Sheba at Sparrow Hair, and to Loralee and Susan Getgood for being such great sports (and such hotties).

I DID get to meet the brilliant Susan Getgood this weekend and her hair looked fantastic. Talk about a blogger with integrity, she’s the top of the heap.

I had to look at these pictures twice; is it just me, or are the two Susans pictured (I am guessing they are the Susans) wearing the same shirt?

Well, I’m blushing.

Thank you so very much for the makeover. It was loads of fun, I love my hair and much as I love my local hairstylist, I would wish that Sheba was a bit closer :-) She did an awesome job!!

And Rayne of Terror, your comment made my day. Thank you.

That makeover made my life. It was so fabulous meeting you all and man…I feel so much better about myself.

I can’t recommend Sparrow highly enough.

Oh, weep! Your pictures are no longer posting and I have been following you for the simple reason that I love your hair! I am a pixie-wearing working mom, who has spent the last year deviating from Who I Am. After reading your Work It Mom blog about what your hair says about you I realized - mine says “fussy and uptight” not “laid back and chic”. I’m about to go home again…but looking for some new, modern interpretations of the pixie. Please, oh please, show me your before and afters again! Somehow?
