snow day
Oklahoma City is completely iced in today; school is canceled and Wade’s office is closed.
You can all have a moment of silence for me now. Amen.
Want to know the worst thing about working from home? The office is NEVER closed for bad weather.
After breakfast, Henry said, “Let’s go outside!” and I thought why the hell not? So we suited up and went to assess the storm damage.
I think the biggest damage is to my wardrobe.
A big branch came loose from the oak tree in the front yard and took out the lamp next to our driveway, which is both a gigantic hassle and kind of nice, because I never really liked that lamp anyway. About an hour ago, the branch, which was balanced precariously on ANOTHER branch, fell completely to the ground and COMPLETELY leveled the lamp post. Good riddance.
I’ll be calling the insurance company in the morning.
So far, we haven’t discovered any more damage, although I may wind up killing one of the children (or their father) before the day is over. Maybe I can blame it on a wayward icicle …

Maybe you can USE a wayward icicle! Murder weapon melts, they can’t prove a thing!

You look cute! That coming from the girl who loves snow and cold that lives where is is too warm for either. Have the boys make snow angels for me-if there is enough snow.

Hey, you can’t work from home if there’s a power outage… not that I’m wishing a power outage on you, because that would suck - I’m just saying that no one would know the difference unless you told them…
And Annika, I swear I read that very plot in an old Encyclopedia Brown mystery when I was a kid.
The perfect crime!
*wonders if they still have Encyclopedia Brown mysteries and also why, given my love for them and Nancy Drew, I never became a private detective*

You are working the fleece; it’s what to wear when dodging trees.
Hope wayward icicles become unnecessary.

We’re all locked inside too … and apparently we are the “cool house.” I used to always think I wanted to be that … until an ice storm hits and I have EVERYONE’S CHILDREN!
*stabbing out my eye with an icicle*

G and I both made it to work this morning. Our driveway was a skating rink this morning. I went outside and tried to scrape and salt as best I could before G walked out there with his bad knee. I suggested he take his cane with him for extra support and sturdiness. I was really glad I did because when I peeked outside to see how he was doing I was right on time to see him almost wiping out. I felt guilty for looking. You enjoy your family togetherness today Susan. Just make sure that you enjoy a little glass of wine (or two) at the end of your day of family togetherness.

I just moved back to OKC after almost twenty years away. We previously lived in Georgia, where it is currently 80 degrees. Remind me again why we moved back home, considering I still have moving boxes to unpack, and thanks to the school-cancelled movement today, three children underfoot. (sigh)

Oy!
I hate snow. And winter. Yet? I love Canada.
I hear ya on the home office. No snow days for us
And how is it that you look amazing, even when dressed to go assess a storm?

I’m in Tulsa, and almost the entire city has NO electricity. I’m currently blogging from the only Starbucks I could find that had electricity and was open past 8:00pm. I bet your home office could close if that tree limb took out a power line instead of one measly lamp. Not that I’m wishing that on you, because it looks like it may be a week or two before we get power restored to our house. I guess the kids get to start their Christmas vacation early.

I read this and I just have to quote the long suffering mother in the movie the Christmas Story, “You’re lucky you didn’t cut your eye. Those icicles have been known to kill people.”
I can’t resist a Christmas Story quote.
I would pay a sizable sum of money to have my town close down for a day…. but this is Canada and we are regularly expected to risk our lives on the road to go to work… insane if you ask me.

I feel your pain. We live right outside Portland OR, and at least once a year since we’ve lived here, we’ve been iced in. Last year it was for 4+ days. So far all members of the family have survived, but every year I think ‘this could be the one’……we’ll see if we survive January.
