OMG, there’s like a whole world outside of the Internet!

Hello! Did you think I was dead? I’m not! Thank goodness.

Where have I been? Oh, you know, here and there and in Albuquerque . . . the usual.

My brother and his family were at my parents’ house over the weekend, and when I told my mother that the boys didn’t have soccer (because GOD FORBID anything conflict with the OU/Texas football game) she said, “Why don’t you come home?”

And I said, “Well, uh, because, see . . . I don’t know. Why don’t I come home?!?” And so I did.

I was home for less than 36 hours; it took me three days to get ready to go and I am STILL exhausted today. But it was completely worth going. I hadn’t seen my brother in almost a year and a half; I had never seen his new baby, who is fourteen months old.

We didn’t do anything particularly special, we just played with the kids and ate and talked and laughed. It was perfect.

My favorite moments were also fairly unspectacular. I got to Albuquerque early Saturday morning, and as I was walking out of the airport, scrambling for my phone and wondering who I was supposed to call when I arrived, I looked up and saw my brother walking toward me, with a huge smile on his face. He reached out and hugged me and it was so incredible to see him.

The next day, when I was leaving, my niece, who had wanted NOTHING to do with me until that moment, decided that she liked me and gave me kiss after kiss, very seriously. There are so few things better than baby kisses; Natalie was snuggled in her mommy’s arms, leaning out with her face all puckered up for me to kiss, over and over. She looks like a wee version of my brother, all big blue eyes and chubby cheeks, and I just wanted to eat her up.

I also read a great book and ate great Mexican food and bought a great necklace.  It was a perfect weekend.

And now I’m back!  I’m sure you’re glad.

  1. Hopefully you had a margarita to go along with the Mexican food.

  2. GAH. OU/Texas weekend. It’s enought to make me want to move away from Dallas permanently. Well, that and the other 900 reasons to move away from Dallas permanently.

  3. Glad you had a nice weekend. I was hoping you had not fallen victim to another illness.

  4. Wasn’t that a terrific book? Just a fun fun read.

I’m so glad you got to go see your family - nothing is better.

  5. Hey, you look familiar…

  6. Simple getaways are usually the best!

The Eyre Affair is one of my all time favorite books. I have the the next three in the series and hopefully soon will have the fifth. Jasper Fforde is just so clever.

Glad you’re back because you are one of the most interesting bloggers and I always come here looking for something enjoyable to read.

  7. I agree, there are few things better than baby kisses.

  8. sounds like fun. i am really looking forward to taking the baby back to see mom & dad & my brother over the holidays.

  9. New mexican food…green chiles…YUM.

  10. That sounds nice…reading a good book while eating a burrito definitely tops my list of fun.

  11. Glad you’re back safely - but that sounds like a great getaway. Glad you had fun. :)

  12. I, for one, missed you. But I often miss you so really, that’s nothing special.

  13. Yay for impromptu trips home!!! I hope you had a bluecorn green chile chicken enchilada for me. Or at least a sopapilla. Did you see ballons, and pretty sunsets? Did you wave to the Sandias? So glad you had a good time :o)

  14. Really Albuquerque? There is a rockin’ Tiki Bar there. Oh yeah, baby, I know ALL the finest places.

  15. Hopefully you had several margaritas.

I love random vacations (I fly to D.C. from Boston on a whim a few times a year..). I did miss your posts though. As beautiful as your fabrics for your new furniture are, it was exciting to see something new.

  16. The Eyre Affair! Is love! Good books yay!
But what I really wanted to say is that I spent a couple of years away from home recently and the joy of meeting my brother again and just being around him - you described it so well.
I’m sure glad you’re back. Glad enough to ber reading your blog while on vacation, actually:)
