not even worth the effort of a title

Where have I been all week? OMG where haven’t I been?  Goodness!

Okay, I’ve been nowhere — I mean, I’ve been here all week, working and falling into bed at 8:45 because I am exhausted, probably from all the working.  Oh and also I have been to soccer — both boys are playing again this year, which means practice two nights during the week and FOUR GAMES this weekend.

Chris and I have been having a contest to see who is being made more miserable by our childrens’ sports commitments.  We’re both at practices on the same nights, and we while away the time exchanging text messages which consist primarily of weather reports.

Her: I am huddled in the car wearing a winter coat and a sweater and boots.

Me: I am sweltering because it is 90 degrees out.  At 6:30 pm.

Her: Did I mention that it is raining here?

Me: Whatever.  I am naked because it is so hot.

Her:  I am covered in a blanket in addition to all the clothes.  Am still cold.

Me: Am being eaten alive by mosquitos.

Her: SO AM I!

Me: Bastards.

Her: They just never die, do they?

I forget, every year, how much I hate fall in Oklahoma; it’s still unbelievably hot here and there are bugs everywhere and shit is blooming all over the place.  My eyes itch so much I’m about to scratch them out with my bare hands, and that’s AFTER taking Claritin regularly for weeks.  Meanwhile, I’m still wearing summer clothes every day, despite the fact that I have a closet full of perfectly lovely fall things, including some kick ass boots that I can’t wait to get out.

Wade keeps promising that “the cold front is coming! this week!” but I think he’s just trying to keep me from losing my ever loving mind from the sweating and scratching.  Good times.

Of course, I don’t currently own a winter coat, because the dry cleaners lost mine last spring, which means that one day I will wake up and it will be  freezing.  I guess there’s always that to look forward to.  And bitch about.

  1. One frost is all it takes, and those bugs are gone! I’m waiting for it, too.

  2. I hate it until the first frost, too!

I usually have horrible trouble with my allergies - every year of my life that I can remember until this year. A few months ago, I started using a prescription nasal spray called Veramyst. It’s like a miracle in a little glass bottle with a nozzle. LOVE IT!

  3. But Susan - that just means you get to buy a new winter coat! Woot! FULLY justifiable! Woot again!

  4. There’s always something to bitch about when you live in a swing state. And by swing I mean the weather.

  5. Maybe you can do a post about where to fine the perfect new winter coat! I need one too and don’t feel like looking. I’m sure you could find an adorable one way faster than me!

  6. I need someone to text with in the drop off line! So glad mine are too young yet for sports. Come visit! We have 60’s all week here! Pumpkins! Apples! But sadly allergens aplenty. I found out it is in fact possible to sneeze ones head off.

  7. Hmmmmm…. I think I might take the heat. This morning, here, 28 degrees. YUCK!

  8. Damn mosquitos!

Hey guess where I’ll be tomight? And the next day? And every other day this week?

  9. It’s 88 today in Portland. I am going through medical menopause. I am angry, angry, angry about this. The heat can suck it. Seriously.

  10. I am also field-side all fall. But in the course of one game or practice, it goes from hot to brrrr. Which would be ok if I didn’t have to bring/hold extra clothes for 5 people. I’m trying to remind myself that after this is winter-time cabin fever though.

Also - can you take my winter coat to your dry cleaner? I really want a new one!

  11. Susan,
Love, love, love your blog. You are the best at “keepin it real”. I’m an Okie as well but would rather have 80’s than 20’s and sunshine works better for me than overcast or rainy. At least the kids can play outside. Also want to recommend Zyrtec. I took Claritin every day each fall but switched to Zyrtec and have had great success! Keep up the good work and hang in there:)

  12. hey. guess what? if you aren’t paying attention and type “friday playmate” in the search bar, you do not get you.

    huh.
