it’s a cultural revolution (sort of)

Me: What did you do at school today?

Charlie: Nicholas and I played with robots.

Me: That sounds like fun.

Charlie: It was!  My robot was named Chairman Mao.

Me: Uh, okay.

Henry: He’s the president of China, you know.

Me: No, not exactly …

Henry: Charlie if you had TWO robots you could name the OTHER one Yao Ming!

Charlie: Is HE the president of China?

Me: No he’s a basketball player.

Henry: But he COULD be president, right?

Me: Uh …

Charlie: Maybe I’ll tell Nicolas to name his robot Yao Ming.

Henry: But Chairman Mao is a stronger robot, right?

Charlie: Right.

  1. But Yao Ming could step on Chairman Mao and it’d be all over.

  2. Perhaps if the opera, Nixon in China ever comes to your neck of the woods you can take them :) It was a great history lesson for me! It will be easier for them to understand because they won’t have had as much wine as I did at dinner before :)

  3. This is so funny. Yao Ming doesn’t have his huge photo up in the forbidden city though.

  4. Hmmm…I think Chairman Mao has a slight disadvantage being dead and all. I know, I know, it is child’s logic and adult thinking NOT WELCOME. They are fun to listen to, though.

At least, you don’t have to listen to the complex debate over Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus. She is a person, no she is 2 people…2 persons, oh hell could we please just listen to something else.

  5. It’s things like this that make me UNABLE TO WAIT until my kids can talk to each other. Right now it’s my daughter talking on and on like she’s Bill O’Reilly and she’s got something really important to say. And my son looks at her for a long time before giving a really loud grunt I translate to mean “SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY, MY GOD WOMAN”.

  6. […] won a trip to Beijing during the Olympics and I’m just a little bit jealous of her. And now her kids are naming their toys Chairman Mao and Yao Ming. Too […]
