I’m not dead but I might as well be
We’re 72 hours from our closing on the new house. I’m still in a kind of low-level panic, because STUFF! MUST! GET! DONE! but mostly I’m feeling pretty zen, especially since we have the bulk of the packing done.
Or I WAS feeling zen. Until today.
Our closing is Friday at 2:00. On Friday at 3:00, the men from the cable company (rhymes with “socks” and I HATE THEM) were going to come out and hook up my internet, and also some TV and a phone. After they turn the tv and phone and internet at THIS house off on Friday morning. It would be so perfect, and OF COURSE it’s not like I will NEED internet on Friday, when we’re trying to move and all.
Except for the fact that at 3:00 on Friday, we will still, mostly likely, be signing papers at the title company, which means that there will not be an adult over the age of 18 available to let the cable guy (rhymes with “socks” and I HATE THEM) into the new house.
Okay then, we’ll just reschedule! No problem! Oh no, no problem at all, if I don’t mind waiting until TUESDAY EVENING to have phone service. And television.
AND INTERNET.
The upside of five days (FIVE! DAYS! FIIIIIIVE!) without the internet is that OF COURSE I will get all the unpacking finished, because what the hell else am I going to do with my time? The down side is that I have those pesky contractual obligations to WRITE STUFF for people. People ON THE INTERNET.
Argh.
So I will probably be hanging out somewhere with wifi for at least a part of the day on Monday, and possibly Sunday night as well, which should make my husband REALLY REALLY HAPPY. Here, honey, put this stuff away, will ya? I’ll be at the coffee shop, working. No, really!
Stupid cable company.

Oh dear, oh dear.
The joy of “socks”. Not!
I personally have not yet had to interact with this soulless conglomerate cable company from H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, but I have heard similarly good things about them.
Ah Susan. Chin up , girl - you’re moving into your rockin’ new digs! Wade will be cool. He’s like that. (At least you’ve lead me to believe he is.)
Hang tight! (So you’re totally NOT moving to Boston then. Hmph.)

I can personally recommend the public library! I had that same conundrum when we bought our house a couple of years ago. Hey - good luck!

Forgive me for probably being wrong here… in our neck of the woods we sign papers 24 hours before closing…is that true for you and does that help?

Argh. Enjoy the coffee.

have you moseyed on down to the new house and turned on your laptop to see what is … out there… (maybe someone has an unsecured you can borrow on and off for a couple of days). We were without phone/internet for a week between houses last month. We have VOIP so our phone runs through our internet, internet through the cable … you get the picture.

Cathy! When we had our walk-through yesterday, I was moaning about this to the current owner (who is someone I know, which is so nice) and she said, Oh, the next door neighbors will TOTALLY let you borrow their wifi connection!
So first thing Saturday morning I will be introducing myself to the neighbors. I think I will bring wine, just in case.

Seriously, what is it with cable companies and the lack of understanding for service. We had an outage — a true, not-our-fault outage — and it took our company more than 28 hours to show up and look at the problem. Annoying.
