I will probably not live long enough to care about the dining room paint

Henry woke up at 5:20 yesterday morning, apparently yelling about how he was going to THROW UP. I missed this because I was already up and dressed and downstairs working.

Good morning!

He did not throw up, but by lunch time he was running a 101 degree fever and was listless and quiet, which is a clear sign that he’s sick. We loaded him up with Tylenol and called the pediatrician to check in, only to find that the office was closed for the holiday. So we assumed that he didn’t have the flu and got on with our lives, which mostly consisted of plopping the kids in front of the TV so that I could work and Wade could nap.

By bedtime Henry was feeling a little better, but still not back to himself; instead of strapping on his headlamp and crawling under the covers with a book, he begged me to snuggle with him and then curled up in my lap, where he proceeded to rub his germy, Vaseline-covered face all over my cashmere sweater, and use my arm to cover his mouth when he sneezed or coughed.

When he finally settled down, I came downstairs and announced that IT’S A GOOD THING I DON’T GET SICK and then tossed my sweater in the laundry. And this morning I woke up feeling like a truck had driven over me. My head hurts, my back hurts, my SKIN hurts, and it’s all I can do to hold my head up.

Good thing I don’t get sick.

Henry still has a fever, which sucks for both of us. We’re out of milk and bread and movies we haven’t seen two hundred times. And I have work to do.

So we’re going to snuggle up on the playroom sofa and watch Playhouse Disney. That should cure us.

  1. Ugh. I’m sorry. Hope it’s a short-lived little virus. And that your cashmere sweater cleans up well.

  2. Here’s to hoping you two feel better before the sun goes down today!

  3. Awww, get well soon! Disney is well known for its medical powers.

  4. “My head hurts, my back hurts, my SKIN hurts, and it’s all I can do to hold my head up.” There is a virus going around my work (Ontario, Canada)like this which is just like the flu but isn’t the flu. I was on the couch for 7 whole days with it. It was the sickest I have ever been. I hope you live too far away to have the same viruses down there because this one was a doozie.

  5. Damn, carrier monkeys. I am telling you, you need to hunt down the little monkey that infected him and give him a lick.

    Hope everyone is better, soon.

  6. Flu vision will make the paint job WORSE. Wait a few days before passing final judgement.

That said, I hope everyone feels better soon!

  7. Hope you all feel better soon! Do you have on-demand cable? It’s a god-send for sick days!

  8. Hoping you guys have a speedy recovery!

  9. Get well- I can’t imagine having to take care of people when I’m sick. Good luck to you!

  10. Sorry you’re sick. I don’t know how you manage to take care of a sick child while you’re sick. I think I’d just die.

  11. i’m guessing thursday’s out, right?

  12. You get up BEFORE 5:30 each morning and still manage to dress and look adorable?

I like you, yes, but I also kind of hate you. I say that with love, you know?

  13. cuddling, juice, and popcorn helped us through a high fever and puke-fest. We read books and watched YouTube though - the downstairs couch isn’t very cuddly.

hope you both get feeling better soon!

  14. Oh that sucks!

  15. never mind about thursday - we have strep. fun! fun! fun!

  16. I have that same thing. Yesterday I was in pajamas at 7 p.m. because my SKIN HURT. And, sadly, naked is not an option in Ottawa in January, not even inside the house, so soft and comfy flannel pj’s were the only option.

(Soft and comfy flannel pj’s are probably the only thing I truly love about winter. And probably the main reason my husband hates it.)

  17. we have this, too. started with my 3 yr old, then my 20 mo old, me last night and tonight it’s hitting my husband. it sucks! what’s with the SKIN hurting?

  18. Bummer. I hate that skin-hurty thing.

  19. We’re battling that in our house right now.

Dressed and working by 5:20 a.m.? Are you crazy, woman?

  20. Um, if there’s anything positive to say, it’s that he loves you enough to share with you! (HA!)

We’re on the tail end of something similar here. We’ve dutifully passed it form family member to family member, extending the whole “sick house” thing out for weeks. Gah!

  21. ‘Tis the season. Hope you’re on the mend.

  22. Dude.

    ur famous.
