growing up is hard

I was carrying Charlie to his room last night, because he was coming off of a 24 hour stomach virus and was being all cute and pitiful and Charlie-like and I am a sucker for that baby cuteness, even though he’s six and weighs 50 pounds and has legs that are nearly as long as mine, and I said, “Oh buddy, I’m not going to be able to carry you around for much longer.  You’re huge!”

“Oh no!” he said sadly, “That’s terrible!  Because then I will have to WALK EVERYWHERE.”

  1. My son is 4, and weighs 42 pounds. I carry him less and less these days. I’ve told him soon he will be able to carry me instead. :)

  2. Yeah, just like the REST OF US DO EVERY DAY! Right?! ;)

  3. If you are wanting to carry something around, you can carry my spawn around all you want next month.

  4. So cute! I carried my 5-year old up the steps the other night and told him, when I got to the top, “That’s the LAST TIME I will ever do that!”

Hope no one else there gets the barfies.

  5. I know I’D like to be carried everywhere if it was an option.

  6. Hahaha, how cute! You don’t look like you could possibly weigh much more than that yourself, so I bet it’s hard!

  7. Where does he get his sense of sarcasm?
    WE MAY NEVER KNOW.

  8. I don’t remember when I stopped carrying my first child. I guess at 2 when her sister was born. I do recall that I had to stop carrying my second child because she was so tall that I could not see past her head. My son is the youngest at 5…he has 10- and 12-year-old sisters. I savored everything about his babyhood and toddlerhood. I liked carrying him as he was relatively easy to carry…not much fidgeting. The problem at 2 he was as tall as and as heavy as a 3-4 year old. So, I soldiered on for another year, but by 3 I was done. He was too cumbersome. I was sad. I missed snuggling his neck as we walked somewhere.

  9. You can tell Charlie that he is cute enough that I will come carry him around when he gets to big for you. He is so damn cute.

  10. I still carry my baby way more than I can. I told him the other day I was going to have to stop soon, and that made me sad. His reply melted my heart. “I know, because I’m your baby and I’m getting sooo big.”
