go, Adam!

This is Wade’s friend Adam running the Memorial Marathon. Go, Adam!

This is Charlie, pretending (or, as he says, “pee-tending”) to run the Memorial Marathon. Seriously, who could NOT love that face?

The marathon was the high point of our weekend. Charlie and I got up on Sunday and turned on the TV and saw Adam, who was at, like, mile five before I had even had a cup of coffee (go, Adam!) and then we had breakfast and got dressed and drove out past Lake Hefner and saw Adam from the car (yay, Adam!) and stopped at Starbucks and got more coffee and drove to Nichols Hills to meet Wade’s parents and wait for Adam to run past.

And when he did, at nearly mile fifteen, he was still able to say hello and laugh at Charlie, who fell down the hill because he was jumping around and yelling, “YAY ADAM!” and not watching where he was going.

You’ve gotta love Adam. And not only because he finished SIXTH in this year’s race, but because he’s smiling while he’s running, and because every single year that we have dragged our asses out of bed to cheer him on for thirty seconds as he runs past, he has made a point of saying hello to our kids.

Charlie asked, repeatedly, if Adam was going to win the marathon, and Wade kept trying to explain that no, he most likely would not, but there aren’t a lot of people who can actually RUN a marathon, much less TALK TO YOU and SMILE FOR PICTURES after ALMOST FIFTEEN MILES, and so we should all be really impressed by and proud of Adam.

Believe me, we are.

  1. Go Adam!
Sounds like his Momma taught him right - try hard, never give up, and smile at the kids!

  2. So Wade didn’t run this one?

If I ran a marathon, I’d be in last place AND there’s no way I could muster even a half smile…or talking for that matter.

Maybe a grunt or grimmace. Adam is a machine.

  3. This is inspitational, I am training to run a half marathon with Kara and I needed this blog this morning. I want to be able to smile at the end of 13 miles, right now I stop smiling at 2.5 miles.

  4. When I was in the army I would be amazed at the guys who would be running their X number of miles and would light up a cigarette for the last one. Mainly because I was waiting for the finish line to come so I could barf.

I was not a good runner. But Adam looks like he is. What a nice guy to take the time to talk to your kids. Go Adam! And Charlie really is incredibly cute.

  5. One of the things we really miss is going to the Pittsburgh Marathon. It’s an Olympic Qualifier, so you see some amazing runners. It used to go through our neighborhood and it was always fun to cheer people on up those enormous hills!

  6. The first two pictures are an hysterical contrast: Adam, with his lean marathon body, and Charlie, with those chubby lil chipmunk cheeks! Laugh out loud funny!

I think, were I running a marathon, that I would find it took too much breath to smile. Go, Adam!! (Good name, BTW)

  7. Wow- I’m impressed! Fifth place is nothing to be ashamed of! Heck- finishing at all! Love the pictures!

  8. Yay Adam!

But, would he stop and explain to me how it is that people can run an entire marathon with NO BODY FAT RESERVES? Because I would like to know. Specifically, I think my flabby buttocks that could never run a marathon would like to know.
