I just found this post via the interview one. Thanks for all these amazing tips — I’m in the process of trying to pare down my wardrobe, and this will really help.

You may have addressed this in a previous Fashion Friday, but I wonder — do you have a target range of clothing items to ensure a complete wardrobe? Like, 6 cardigans, 3 pairs of jeans, 2 dressy jackets? Does this make sense? (I’m guessing some of it depends how often each person does laundry, but I’m curious as to what you think is the ideal mix/match combo for outfits.)

These are great suggestions and I really should follow them. But then there will be nothing in my closet or drawers. I NEED jeans, btw.

Clickmom, you reminded me of something I meant to say in the actual post (blaming the sickness, see), which was this: my clothes live in the smallest closet in our house. Wade has the big walk-in closet in our bedroom (for his CAMPING GEAR, of course) and my clothes live in a space that is HALF that of what each kid has–you know, for all their sweats and t-shirts.

It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality. Having a very few clothes–and shoes–that really WORK for you makes so much more sense than having hundreds of pieces that you’re not sure how to wear or don’t like or don’t feel good in.

Which makes me think we should really talk about accessorizing, yes? Yes. You know, to get the most mileage out of what you have.

At first I was going to say that you had way too many clothes since I can fit all my dress up clothes on about 6 inches of rack space. And it all goes with the exactly two pairs of black pumps I own, but then I read the comments and am thinking that maybe I need to do a little shopping. Hmmmm….
