entitlement is SUCH a DRAG

the little prince and his Playmobil

Charlie is feeling substantially better today, which is both a blessing and a curse. He’s in a lot less pain, and there are no signs that a raging infection is eating away at his bones (you’re welcome!). But he’s also feeling very entitled, which I blame on his father, who apparently told him that he could have WHATEVER HE WANTED because he broke his arm. For example:

Henry: Can we watch Batman?

Charlie: I don’t want to watch Batman.

Henry: But I do!

Charlie (disdainfully): The person with the broken arm gets to choose what we watch. Daddy said so.

Good god.

Yesterday Charlie scolded me for pulling his pants up too much after he went potty; today he announced, “I would like you to go downstairs and get me something to eat. A Pop Tart, if you please.”

Last night he decided that he wanted to sort and arrange all the Playmobil. I’m all about the sorting, so I happily agreed. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that this would mean spreading every single teeny tiny pirate and knight and gladiator out on the floor, taking ALL their armor off, and piling things into groups that only Charlie understands.

And in the middle of the mess, the Little Prince is kicked back, eating a Pop Tart and repeatedly asking, “Can we see what ELSE is on TV?  Because this is boring.”

You said it, son.

  1. I laugh now, but only because I can see the day when this will be MY son.

  2. Uh oh-there seems to be a problem… Mine act this way without the broken arm.

  3. Perhaps it’s time for a wee reality check?

  4. Hey, we have that castle! It’s Sam’s favorite. He can’t get it out of the toy bin, but he tries every day and shrieks until I come help him. I should just move the toy bin so he can get it, but it amuses me so.

  5. I kinda want a broken arm so people will wait on me. I wonder if I bandage my left arm up and whine some, if that would be enough to convince jparks to bring me my coffee in bed.

  6. Jeez, he’s lucky he’s so cute. Also, he did say please when he placed his Pop-Tart order.

  7. A sure sign that he is feeling MUCH better! That is good news (depite the fact that it’s annoying)!

I love those Playmobil knights. I’ll come play castle with Charlie anytime! (Well, except when there are tornado sirens blaring.)

  8. oh yeah, time to pull the plug on THIS one!!!!!

  9. I’m guessing it’s almost time for him to go back to SCHOOL.

  10. bhwahhahahaha! pop tarts do make all right in the world.

  11. Did he really say “if you please”? Awesome!
    Glad he’s feeling better!

  12. Oh POOR you!!! This is when you say “The MOMMY of the person with the broken arm gets to have a martini. The INTERNET says so!”

  13. Looks like someone is a little too big for their britches. Maybe, if he could shrink and be the king of that little castle he plays with, it wouldn’t be so bad.

Glad to hear he is feeling better. Hope you survive.

  14. Um, my kids act like this on any given Sunday. And for the record, must Playmobil pieces be SO DAMN SMALL?! I am tired of getting those pesky swords stuck between my toes.
