“critter couture”

mmmm cashmere

Lat night, I was entertaining myself with the J. Crew catalog, because my husband went to happy our with people from the office and didn’t come home until 9:00.

He’s lucky I was too lazy to get up and get my wallet. Also that the kids were well behaved. Because who would have blamed me for buying an entire new wardrobe?

I’ve given up shopping for the month of September. Why? To make a point about how most of us already have everything we need in our closets, and should really THINK about what’s missing rather than just buying something because it’s Friday night and we’re home with the kids and not at happy hour.

(For the record, I didn’t care that he went out, I really didn’t. He’s worked some long hours lately and deserved it. And when the kids were still up and running around at 10:00 and Charlie was crying hysterically because he was so tired he couldn’t think straight, Wade jumped right in and took care of it.)

Giving up shopping seemed like such a good idea two weeks ago, when I had just finished cleaning out my closet.  But now I’m not so sure.

Although, for the record, I don’t want that sweater with the bird on it.  Yet.

Want to see what I’m wearing?  Join The Working Closet’s Flickr pool; I’ll be posting there every day this month.  And you can, too!

  1. What?! No birdy sweater to keep you cozy.

Have fun no shopping. I was forced into the no shopping for the next few months. I just hope I don’t get the shakes from the withdrawal.

  2. Not even the hot pink scarf? Really? Maybe just some new shoes. I don’t think shoes count when you say you’re “not shopping.”

  3. The shopping gene skipped a generation in my family. My 13-year-old daughter would rather give up eating than shopping. Fortunately, I have trained her well: She heads straight for the clearance racks!

    Me, I just windowshop.

  4. - now if the bird was black…

  5. Lucky I just did some shopping on the weekend and scraped into August!!

  6. I’m drooling over the Bella jacket/newsboy hat combo and the all-over argyle sweater. Half a grand should cover just those three items. Yikes.

  7. I love the working closet flicker album! That would possibly motivate me to get showered and dressed in the morning. Everyone looks so cute!! How do you join?
