cha cha cha

For my mother’s birthday, my sister-in-law sent a video of her two-and-half-year-old daughter singing Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday to you!
CHA CHA CHA!
Happy birthday to you!
CHA CHA CHA!

Tess was very enthusiastic about her cha cha chas, which is understandable–after all, doesn’t every birthday deserve a good CHA CHA CHA?

Today is my birthday–isn’t that fun? I’m 38, thanks for asking, and yes! I feel old! Because Henry decided that it would be really fun to start celebrating my special day at 2:30 this morning! He and I were awake until nearly 5:00, which was neither fun nor special.

Fortunately, I have been showered with fabulous gifts today, including a huge geranium plant from my sons (via their grandparents), a box of Godiva chocolates, also from the boys (with some help from their daddy), and a beautiful bracelet and earrings set, from my parents (the set was made by an artist friend of my mother’s). We have celebrated with a family dinner out and a visit to the pediatric neurological consultant (okay, that wasn’t really for my birthday, it was just a fluke of scheduling, but it did make me feel better about all sorts of things).

Tonight I’m going out to dinner with my husband, at a grown-up restaurant, and we are NOT going to talk about poop or preschool or superheros. Which means I should go look at the New York Times really quickly to see what else there is to talk about. And then I’m going to put some high heeled shoes on, because why the hell not?

Cha cha cha!

  6. Wow. Happy birthday! You share a birthday with Beth Adams, over at Crazy Us. And not surprisingly, you two have a similarly wacky way of looking at life and I love reading both of your blogs. :)

  7. Happy Birthday!!!!

  8. Happy Birthday! So happy about the ped. neuro consultant (what Heather said).

  9. Happy Birthday!

  10. Happy Birthday! I was up at 3:30 for the day today, but not because of any kids, who, at their ages, have nooo trouble sleeping. Why then?

Because I’m old, and I have old, persnickety hormones. So have fun being 38, you whippersnapper, you.

  11. Are pediatric neurologists as hard to find around here as pediatric neurosurgeons? If they are, getting that appointment is cause to celebrate!

Happy Birthday! Your blog doesn’t look a day over thirty.

  12. Happy birthday, darling!!

  13. Happy birthday!! Hope dinner was great!!

  14. Happy happy happy birthday!

  15. Happy happy joy joy to you, you crazy fool!

  16. Happy Birthday! Cha Cha Cha! Hope you have a great dinner!

  17. Happy Birthday!
I hope you have a wonderful date with your man!
    Did you get any cake??

  18. I DID get cake–my mother made lemon pudding cake, which is my favorite. And I’m planning to sucker Wade’s mother into making me a Boston Cream pie.

    Because I need MORE CAKE.

  19. You are hilarious! I just found your blog through the Oklahoma Webring> I’ll be back soon and often! Thanks for the laugh before I went to bed. I’m going to giggle myself to sleep.
Oh…and happy birthday. all the best…warm tidings…cha cha cha.

  20. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! I’d drink a glass of KJ in your honor today if I had one. Will you settle for a beer?

And since when is 38 old? My grandma-in-law just celebrated her 97th birthday, and she’s going strong (so very healthy mentally, and MOSTLY healthy physically)!

  21. Happy birthday! And it’s so funny, because when you said you weren’t going to talk about poop or preschool or superheroes, I thought–is there really anything else for parents to talk about when you have little boys, even if you try really hard! Then I read the thing about the times and just burst out laughing.

  22. Happy birthday, Susan! (It’s my husband’s birthday today but he’s waaay older than 38.)

Don’t feel old. Remember: 40 is the the new 30 which makes you 28 according to my math.

  23. If 40 is the new 30, what does that make 70 (which I’m pushing hard).

A very Happy Birtday to you.

  24. Yay! I hope you had a great day. I’m a little late to the party…just trying to stretch out the fun a little.

  25. WOO HOO! Happy Birthday!

  26. Happy Birthday, a day late.

Hope you got more cake. MORE CAKE!!!!

  27. Happy, happy! Enjoy your dinner, and those shoes! And more cake as well!

  28. Happy Belated Birthday!

As I’m reading this Tuesday morning, I hope the birthday dinner went well.

I’d be really curious to know what esoteric grown-up things you ended up talking about, because at Chez Velma this week, the talk is poop and swingsets, 24/7. :)

  29. Happy Birthday! And you definitely need more cake. That lemon beauty that your mom made sounded magical…

  30. Shit! I’m late! Happy birthday! Hope your heels were VERY cha cha for your dinner out.

And I am LOVING mj’s math.

  31. Hope you had a wonderful birthday! Cha cha cha!

  32. Ooh, happy birthday! You don’t look a day over 30. (I put 309 just then, by accident.)

I’m hereby requesting a picture of the outfit you wear to the Fancy Grown Up Restaurant. Or at least a description. Of the shoes, if nothing else.

  33. Happy Birthday!! Many happy shoe purchases - a pair for every year!

  34. The happiest of birthdays to you!

  35. happy happy birthday!!

  36. It’s very late but Happy Birthday….!

    AD

  37. Happy Birthday!! OK, I’m a little behind on things…but, I hope it was a good one!

  38. It’s been a couple of days but happy birthday! Mine was the 20th and I’m totally with you on the night out with the wine and the not-talking-about-babies. Not the shoes, though. Four-inch heels? Oooh la-la. Er, cha-cha-cha…
