It was cold enough here this morning for a sweater and a jacket. Thank goodness — I’m ready.

This is a really basic outfit: charcoal cable knit turtleneck, dark denim pencil skirt, flat black riding boots. The jacket is fun because it has shorter, wider sleeves, and the brooch is totally over the top — together, they give this look a fun vintage feel.

(And the pin is actual vintage, from my grandmother, so that’s also super fun.)

There’s nothing fancy going on here, except for the pin, which is such an easy accessory. I worked, cleaned up the house, met a friend for coffee, and ran errands in this outfit; tonight I’m taking the kids to a party for Henry’s soccer team — all in this outfit! The moral of the story is this: one small simple detail can change your whole look. Glam up your cozy pieces with a scarf or pin or necklace, and don’t be afraid to bling it up a little.
