why didn’t you say anything?

A few months back, I had a nice e-mail from a woman named Margaret Renkl; she was writing a story about parents who had struggled with medicating their children for various psychiatric conditions, and she wanted to know if I would talk with her. She had found me through a comment I had left at Judith Warner’s New York Times blog, Domestic Disturbances, on a post about medicating kids with ADHD (comment number 77, if you’re curious). I said yes, I would be happy to talk with her. We e-mailed back and forth, and this month, Margaret’s article appeared in Parenting Magazine. You can read it here.

oh, you’re right, that is absolutely . . . wait, what were we talking about?
My bag came today! And, in the SAME UPS delivery (which arrived during a HAIL STORM I kid you not) I also got my copy of The Handbag: An Illustrated History. And I got down on my knees and thanked the lord, because he is good, and he understands my love of the handbag.
Amen.

swimming in the shallow end
On Saturday, I have a lunch date with the uber fantastic Shana. I am excited about this for two reasons; on is that Shana is just so damn fun to be around and I know that I will wind up laughing until I pee my sides hurt, but the OTHER reason is that in her previous life Shana was a Makeup Girl and she’s going to take me to Sephora and make me look 20 years younger!
Is that asking too much? Nah.

we didn’t drown, but we might as well have
I was jolted awake this morning at SIX FORTY ONE am by the phone. Clearly, I thought, someone has died, because why else would ANYONE be calling us at SIX FORTY ONE on a SUNDAY morning?
Except today is Monday and we had all overslept. Dammit.
The phone call was from Charlie’s teacher, who wanted to know if I could sub for their aide, who is sick. I said of course! mostly because I wasn’t awake yet and was so happy no one was dead. And then I took the Universe’s Fastest Shower and ran around like a chicken with my head cut off until we were all ready to go.
Somehow, we were not late for school, which was awesome. But mostly I still feel like I’m not ready to start my day yet, even though it’s nearly 2:00 and the kid-free part of my day is nearly over. Gah. (more…)
