grace in small things: where my week went
Five things I’ve done in the past week (you know, other than update this website, obviously).
1. I wrote some things: directions for better laundering, a recap of the OctoMom reality TV special, and a review of the world’s cutest lunch boxes.
2. I exercised! I have either walked or shredded every day for the past ten days (except the one day when I cleaned the playroom which was more of a workout than even Jillian Michaels could provide, I swear to you). I’m saving the 30 Day Shred for days when the weather is crummy, so mostly I’m walking, but soon I will be shredding all the time. Promise. (more…)

grace in small things: forty four
Five things I really and truly did today. No kidding. Even though you’ll never believe them.
1. Cleaned the master bathroom. VOLUNTARILY. Not like last week, when I cleaned the utility bathroom in desperation because the lingering smell of urine was wafting into my office and making me feel like I was working in a bus terminal. (Aside to the child who apparently is unclear about how this whole peeing in the toilet thing works: FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS STOP PEEING ON THE FLOOR. Thanks!)
2. Cooked dinner. WHILE WEARING AN APRON. I was also wearing a ridiculously expensive white J. Crew t-shirt while making fajitas, but still — I wore the apron to cook and I left it on while we ate. Oh and it was a Butterball apron, if that makes a difference (Wade says yes, it does).

Okay so that’s actually Chris in the apron, but you get the idea. (more…)

grace in small things: forty three
Wade is home from Alaska, where he saw a bear but was not eaten by one (thank goodness). He has been regaling us all day with stories of his week in the wild; he has also been struggling to stay awake because he’s had basically three hours sleep in the last 36 hours.
It’s good to have him home.
We spent the afternoon thinking of things to do that would keep Wade moving, because we’re big believers in just pushing through to bedtime and not napping — we like to think that this makes it easier to get back on a normal sleep schedule. We also like to think that there is such a thing as a “normal” sleep schedule. We’re optimists that way.
To burn as much daylight as possible today (ht to Melissa) we took the boys bowling and to the arcade at the mall and then cooked a nice dinner. And I may have done a wee bit of shopping at the mall, too, because the arcade makes me feel like I’m going to have a seizure. Oh don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. You know you do.
Five things I am thankful for today, not including my husband not getting eaten by a bear. (more…)

grace in small things: Charlie
Charlie is seven today; I cannot even imagine how that is possible, largely because how can I be the mother of a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old? You know, since I’m only 30 (as Henry has started to tell people).
((God bless that kid.))
