grace in small things: Broad Summit

Five things that made my weekend magical.
1. Being greeted on Friday, after a long day of travel, by Maggie and Laura insisting that we have a massage right now! (Don’t ever say no to a massage. Ever.)
2. Rooming with Melissa, who demonstrated her impressive Irish goodnight technique for us.
3. Yoga with Gwen Bell. Namaste indeed.
4. Good wine and great food. At every turn.
5. Redeye home with Chris.

Full recap coming soon. After I finish processing.
Huge thanks to Maggie, Aubrey, Laura, and Helen Jane for a wonderful weekend.

grace in small things: forty seven
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
Simple Gifts, Elder Joseph Brackett, 1848

Things I try not to take for granted but still sometimes do.
1. Children who say “I love you” for no real reason, just because they love you.
2. Family, near and far.
3. Good Great neighbors.
4. Faraway friends, especially the kind who text to say, “We’re totally talking about you!”
5. Cupcakes.

grace in small things: forty five
I’m so ready for fall; I’m tired of hot weather and my summer clothes and whatever it is that is making every single inch of me itch all the time.
Pollen. Feh.
There is one stretch of my block where the leaves are turning and starting to fall; for that three-house stretch each morning, my walk feels less like the bedraggled end of summer and more like the promise of a new season. My office is oddly cold, which is great because I can put on a pullover and pretend it’s cool outside while I’m working, but eventually I have to leave the house to go get the kids and then I remember just how not-fall-like it is outside.
But soon, soon it will be fall, for real.
Five things I love about fall …
1. Cardigan sweaters.
2. Boots with a skirt.
3. Cold mornings.
4. Scarves, just for pretty.
5. Food that needs to be cooked in the oven and served hot. Not doing that until the humidity drops, though. No way.
