can’t write–vacationing

After spending pretty much all day Monday trapped in the house (which was fun for about nine minutes), things got better here in Partly Sunny Flordia. We’ve been swimming every day (Henry and I got in the pool on Monday, while we were waiting out the storm, because what else were we going to do?) and today we went to the beach for about three hours. I love the beach. I really do love everything bout the beach; I even love that sand-coated feeling you have AFTER the beach. The boys had a huge time doing I don’t know what–we built a village and they splashed in the water and chased Tess around. Some seagulls tried to eat our snack, which was HORRIFIC (because BIRDS! ICK!) but it was a nice morning. Then I took a nap and the boys did something (I was asleep, so Wade was in charge) and now they’re in the pool with my parents. Ahhh . . .

Our free borrowed internet was out for a few days, which we complained mightily about despite the fact that it wasn’t our wifi connection in the first place. But still! What an inconvenience! But the neighbor appears to have fixed and has still not secured his router, which is good.

And later we’re going to . . . uh . . . I don’t know! Do something else fun! Maybe I’ll post some pictures! Or maybe I’ll just go swimming.

Thanks for worrying about me–you’re all so nice. See you soon!

This week’s cutest Charlie moment: yesterday in the pool, he said to me, “Hold on Mama, with all your might and BOTH your hands!” I just want to eat him up, I swear.

  1. Sounds like you’re having a wonderful time. Enjoy that pool for me!

  2. Those poor innocents who don’t secure their router… How convenient!

So, are you afraid of birds?

I’m going to post this before JEN DOES! NYAH, NYah!!

  3. Because she’s so talkative and I type faster! And now she just sent her comment winging into the ether. Bwah-ah! Two to one for Mary P!!!

  4. Oh, son of a BITCH!

I was just writing a super long comment and Mary P. was laughing at me for taking so long and then the WINDOW CLOSED!

And now she has posted twice!

  5. That is so what I get for talking to Mary P. and explaining that you actually TALK in exclamation points (as well as write in them) and try to explain to her that I can’t imitate your slight southern drawl properly.

She goes and posts twice before I can.

We are going to eat porkchops soon. That she is making.

She is upstairs. And we have been sitting here in her dining room together reading blogs.

    Is that geeky, or what?

  6. Ooooh, the SEAGULLS! Several years ago, during a beach vacation when Pepper was 3, we had an “incident” that has scarred her, probably for life. All it took was my sister’s teasing comment that “The seagulls are coming to eat your food!” Now I have a child who freaks out whenever there are seagulls in the vicinity, which is pretty damn inconvenient since we live on freakin’ Cape Cod!!

  7. When we lived near Ocean Beach in San Francisco (the other ocean), a seagull chased my son down to steal his peanut butter & jelly sandwich. My friend (I wasn’t there) kept yelling at Tim to drop the sandwich but Tim wouldn’t let go. Gail finally knocked it out of his hand. That gull was serious but Tim was much more upset about losing the sandwich.

Don’t you just love the Jen and Mary P. dog and pony show? They just did the same thing on granny.

  8. Hope you are having fun on vacation! the rain has stopped, yes?

  9. Things are looking up, girlfriend!

On a totally different note, did you notice that J Crew now has a kids line? We are so screwed.

  10. Fucking seagulls. Seriously, I may be scarred for life. Or so I thought, until a FLYING COCKROACH (yeah, Palmetto Bug, whatever) landed on me tonight. Thank god for my quick-thinking and VERY CALM sister-in-law. Because OH MY GOD that thing was HUGE! Ugh.

And yes, KT, I know about Crewcuts! And yes, we’re screwed.

And yes! I’ve had a few drinks! Whoo hoo! Now go away–I’m on vacation for god’s sake. (No, don’t go away, but really, DO have a drink!).

  11. God I love the beach! I’m envious. Ah, seagulls, where they use humans as target practice for their poop.

  12. Isn’t it great when your kids say such delicious things? Last weekend, my son said, “Mummy, you drive me happy.” Which made me feel slightly guilty about all the times I’ve said “you’re driving me crazy.”

Hope you’re managing to endure/avoid the weather system! I’m drinking my obligatory glass (or two) of wine as I type. As another mum I know calls it “mummy juice.” (Hope I can still do the word verification.)

  13. oh, I get the “both hands!” comment from the 5 yr-old when I’m driving! Charlie is so much sweeter when giving commands!

Have fun in the sun :-)C

  14. Yay! Vacation! Glad you didn’t have to evacuate. I just read your airport post and cracked up! I SOOOOO know the feeling.
