apparently, this is a house blog now
First things first: Wade came home on Friday and repeated, again, his plan to GET A LADDER and LEAN IT OVER HERE and PAINT THE WALL because HOW HARD CAN IT BE? And I said I ASKED THE INTERNET AND THEY SAID NO NO NO DO NOT DO IT.
And lo he was persuaded and we shall hire a painter and the heavens opened and the angels sang.
Thank you all for your encouragement and support of my position. I love you all.
So on Saturday, after TWO pee wee basketball games (remind me later to tell you all about THAT) we started painting the office. Pretty much the rest of the weekend, until like an HOUR ago, was a long blur of paint. Because for a tiny room, that office was a bitch to paint.
Why so hard, you ask? Well, because of this …
Navy blue walls. NAVY! BLUE! A dark, midnight navy, to be precise. And MOLDING! Like a CHAIR RAIL that had to be METICULOUSLY painted without ANY paint going over the edge (yeah, right). And CORNERS. So many corners.
Two coats of primer later, we were ready to roll. I won’t bore you with the during pictures (you can see them at Flickr, if you’re really feeling masochistic), but here’s the after.
Shocking, isn’t it? The top is Vintage Gray, the bottom is the same Winter Wheat as the rest of the downstairs. Both Eddie Bauer Home, from Lowe’s.
We have now OFFICIALLY painted EVERY paintable surface on the ENTIRE first floor of this house (exception: the laundry room, which I may very well do this week). And seriously, it is like a WHOLE NEW HOUSE.
For example: foyer, before.
Foyer, after.
Next weekend: the master bedroom. No chair rails there, so how hard can it be?
Riiiight.

My husband once tried to paint our stair way by stacking two suitcases and a BOX on a stair. When it fell 10 minutes into the project, my then 7 year old said “Dad! I could have told you that was a disaster waiting to happen!” and then she shook her head and walked away.
Fortunately we finished the rest with long handles attached to the rollers.
Boy paint does make a huge difference doesn’t it? The enry especially is just a dramatic before and after. It looks great.

We are getting our house ready to go on the market next month. This weekend, my loving husband said to me, and I kid you not, “I need to get the stepladder out so I can paint up above the stairs.”
Um, yeah, I don’t think so.

Can you come to my house and paint my daughter’s room?
….and my bathroom?

Oh, I have so been there. Painted every surface in this house. And it’s taken so long, that now it’s time to go back and start over again!

May I ask, with your bright colors, are you just painting accent walls or are you going all out and doing whole rooms in gorgeous, vibrant colors? It’s only that I am struggling with the question of how many walls to paint right now and am feeling rather inspired by that lovely, glow-y orange color…

Susan says: We’re doing a little of both. The orange wall in the foyer is just an accent, but the dining room is really all yellow. But since the dining room opens into the living room and the foyer, it’s really only ONE big yellow wall, and even that has two windows in it.
I say go for it; it’s just paint and you can always cover it up. With two coats of primer and a lot of swearing.p>

Your house is looking absolutely lovely!
So glad that Wade acquiesced, I was so very worried.

Yep, this is exactly why the walls in our house have been the same color for a very, very looooooooong time…

So very impressive, if that helps ease your pain.

The foyer? GORGEOUS! B-E-A-YOU-TIFUL!
I so can not wait until we own this house so I can paint it other colors… right now the entire house is white except for our master bedroom which is an olive/sage color….
I would LOVE to paint my entrance wall a different color. LOVE!

I want to hear about pee-wee basketball! My dad once walked out on one of my pee-wee games because the “refs” (who were on the high school freshman team) weren’t calling the game properly … he got better as time went on, I swear.
I can put in a word with Coach Donovan here, if you want
Also, I totally dare you to do a Venetian Plaster faux finish. In your bathroom. That was our very first DIY project in our very first house. It’s pretty good, if you don’t look behind the toilet, or at the ceiling, or at any of the molding.
