we don’t need no stinkin’ teeth

This summer, Charlie has fallen in love with corn on the cob. The first time we served it, he bit in, declared his adoration, and then lost a tooth. (Well, the tooth came out a couple of days later, but it was totally the corn that did it. I’m certain of that.)

Of course, he picks the summer when he has lost his top two front teeth, and is moments away from losing one more, to chomp into the corn. He has these two wee nubs of permanent teeth coming in, and he uses them to do his thing.

who needs teeth?

We’re genuinely unsure how he manages to eat the corn without any real teeth to speak of. All we know is that he leaves at least a third of it on the floor under his chair. And a lot on his face. And then he asks for more.

  1. don’t you just love those target cups & bowls? i have all blue so my three boys do not fight over them! my 7 year old has less teeth (due to extractions) & an expander on the the roof of his mouth, yet can suck down an ear of corn in four minutes! BOYS!

  2. not to stalk - but are those the denby plates?

  3. How CUTE is he??

Every couple summers we have someone who can’t eat corn on the cob due to loose teeth. This summer, we are all corn eaters. (Next summer, I bet not!)

Way to go, Charlie on persistence. Good corn is worth using those nubs!

  4. So cute! I love missing teeth.

  5. My kids love corn on the cob, too!

When my brother was around the same age as your son, he was missing all his front teeth. He used to eat his corn with his eye teeth and molars. He had to hold the corn to the side, along his cheek and towards his ear so that he could reach it with his side teeth.

My parents always joked he was literally eating an EAR of corn. heh.
